Code of Ethics

South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership is on the front line for our regional work to “restore ecosystems and the sustainability of communities, cultures, and economies.” Through the commitment and effort of all South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership staff and personnel, working throughout the organization, we have achieved recognition on a local, state, regional, and national level.

We are grateful for our success so far and recognize that, without a strong commitment to ethical principles, we would not be where we are today. As such, we have adopted this Code of Ethics to formalize and publicly acknowledge the principles that guide everyone involved in South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership’s work, including our employees, volunteers, and members of the Board of Directors.

The ethical principles presented below are the values that set the ground rules for all that we do as employees, volunteers, and Directors of South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership.

OUR ETHICAL PRINCIPLES:

HONESTY: We will not say things that are false. We will never deliberately mislead. We will be as candid as possible, openly and freely sharing information, as appropriate to the relationship and without violating our commitment to confidentiality.

CONFIDENTIALITY: We are committed to maintaining the highest degree of integrity in all our dealings with potential, current, and past partners (including agencies, tribes, other nonprofit organizations, landowners, and funders), both in terms of organizational and business information and the protection of all personal information received in the course of collaborating or providing services. We extend the same standards to all other parties that we work with, collaborate with, or to whom we provide services.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: We will follow the letter and spirit of South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership’s Conflict of Interest policy. We will be quick to disclose potential conflicts so that appropriate action can be taken and to recuse ourselves from making decisions on issues in which we have conflicts.

PROMISE KEEPING: We will go to great lengths to keep our commitments. We will not make promises that cannot be kept, and we will not make promises on behalf of South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership unless we have the authority to do so.

FAIRNESS: In all our dealings, we will create and follow processes and achieve outcomes that a reasonable person would call just, evenhanded, and nonarbitrary.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS: We will be open and direct in our communication with each other and receptive to influence. We will honor and value the abilities and contributions of others, embracing the responsibility and accountability for our actions in this regard.

COMPASSION: We will maintain an awareness of the needs of others and act to meet those needs whenever possible. We will also minimize harm whenever possible. We will act in ways that are consistent with our commitment to social responsibility.

EQUALITY AND DISCRIMINATION: We always strive to be fair and objective in our advice and actions, and we commit to never let issues of race, sex, disability, religion, or any other status protected by law or South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership policy influence our decisions, actions, or recommendations.

INTEGRITY: We will live up to both the letter and spirit of these ethical principles, even when confronted by personal, professional, and social risks, as well as economic pressures.
